NYSC Camp Update

Hi everyone! This post isn’t a regular one. I wanted to update you all about a possible hiatus for the next 3–4 weeks. Tomorrow, on Tuesday 10th November., I’ll be starting my National Youth Service Corps program (NYSC). The NYSC program is a mandatory government program hosted in Nigeria which lasts for a year. The first part consists of a month at a military camp, followed by 11 months of work within a government facility, and it is undertaken after completion of your first degree. In the case of medical professionals, the NYSC program is completed after a 1-year internship.

During the military camp, there are drills, march pasts, lectures about the cultural differences between each of the states, talent shows, parties, and so many more experiences I’m yet to have. After this month, the government posts each corps member to an institution that best fits their skill set as an introduction to the workforce.

Since my camp stay is going to be starting tomorrow, after eight months of waiting due to COVID-19, I may not be able to update the blog till it’s over. The emphasis here is on ‘may’ because as of now, I’m not sure if I’m going to have access to the internet or my electronics while I am at camp. If I do, then I’ll continue posting as usual from next week. If not, my next post will be on the 7th of December with an update on my camp experience.

Thank you all for following me on this journey, and I’m looking forward to picking up where I left off.

Bye for now!
